Where does the Nassau County lifeguard class run?

Scheduled lifeguard classes are held at 37 Mineola Ave in Roslyn. For most of Nassau that is a short drive:
roughly ten to fifteen minutes from Manhasset, Port Washington or Mineola, twenty from Garden City or Hicksville,
and half an hour from the south shore towns around Rockville Centre and Long Beach.

Sessions run across two or three days rather than as one long day, because the water work, the classroom work and
the final testing each need their own block. Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles if you use them, and food for the
break: the pool schedule does not leave time to go out and find lunch.

Who usually books the Nassau lifeguard class?

Three groups make up most of a typical Nassau session. High school and college students certifying in spring for a
summer job at a town pool, beach or day camp. Adults moving into pool work, often at a swim school or a condominium
pool that needs cover. And staff sent by an employer who has to have a certified guard on duty before the season
opens.

The timing matters more in Nassau than people expect. Hiring for summer pool and beach work is largely settled
during spring, so a certificate earned in June competes for whatever is left rather than for the pick of the roster.
If the job is the point, book a class that finishes before the hiring runs.

Do lifeguard course content, prerequisites and testing change by county?

The swim test, the course structure, what the certification covers and what happens if you do not pass a section
are the same wherever you take the class with us. Rather than repeat it here, it is all set out on the
lifeguard class page for Long Island.
