How are lifeguard class sessions arranged in Suffolk County?

Suffolk works differently from Nassau. There is no fixed Suffolk timetable: sessions are arranged on request,
usually once a camp, pool or group of individuals has enough people to fill one. Call (718) 954-5567 with the dates you are
working towards and we will tell you what can be scheduled.

The other route is simply to take a scheduled class in Roslyn. Suffolk students do this regularly, and for one or
two people it is normally faster than waiting for a Suffolk session to be arranged.

How long is the trip from Suffolk to the lifeguard class in Roslyn?

From the western border towns such as Amityville, Lindenhurst or Deer Park, Roslyn is usually thirty to forty five
minutes outside rush hour. From Huntington, Melville or Commack the run along the north shore is often quicker than
the map suggests. From central Suffolk it is realistically an hour, which is worth knowing before you commit to a
multi-day course.

Because the class runs over more than one day, plan the travel for every day of it rather than the first. Most
people who drop out of a course do so on day two, for reasons that are about traffic rather than swimming.

Do lifeguard course content, prerequisites and testing change by county?

The swim test, session structure, certification and retest rules do not change by county. They are set out in full
on the lifeguard class page for Long Island.
